How much and for how long without this information, it is hard to judge this signing. Every team needs roll players.

Let him wear #12 so I can repurpose my Albert Wilson jersey.

There was no “true” Sam LB on the roster so they got one cheap…….Hitchens and Neiman can spot play all 3 positions in 4-3 and that helps depth. Ragland just doesn’t fit, no matter what Nate’s source is saying (he may stay for camp fodder)……..Chiefs can now get a young Sam in 3rd or later and if one of the 4.4 Mike prospects align with a pick, they can take and move Hitchens to Sam(not ideal for him but would make work due to $)

Cowboys fans are upset they lost him…. Then again cowboy fans were upset they lost Hitchens last year

Well, that answers my question. Still, I think they should draft an LB.

Please tell me this guy had been cut and we aren’t risking comp picks for him.

Im not sure if I should laugh or cry at this but Wilson was graded higher than Hitchens by PFF last season. Both below average ( #87 vs #92 ranked LB) So technically we got better…?

Chiefs apparently, they had their eyes on another free agent from the Texans.

The Texans released corner Kevin Johnson ahead of the start of the legal tampering period. Ended up signing w/bills

He’s a young guy that adds some depth at least. In Spags I trust.

Most of the mock drafts I have seen don’t have a lot of early round Sam options where the Chiefs are drafting. This may be a combination depth/draft insurance signing.

I think we’re all scarred by former Dallas LBs

They keep the good ones and use Kansas City as their LB landfill 🙂

Better than being San Francisco QB landfill again

Whoa. As sad as it sounds that where some of our best QB’s came from.

Veach loves him some Cowboy linebackers.

And guys named Damien

Kcrobwins

He seems to value camaraderie. He tried to match the Fullers up last year with childhood friend DOD, and now at the linebacker positional group he adds Hitchens old running mate. For what its worth – at least he got the guy this year.

trying to think this is progress…surely these FO people know much better than we do…then again…we didn’t hire David Amerson either. we’ve got Mahomes and I guess I’ll keep repeating that to myself all this off-season.

Instead of “serenity now” it’s “Mahomes now”.

????????????????????????????

Tweet scares the shit out of me.

DoD is a clear Will

Right and Ragland should’ve been cut the moment Spags was hired. Out of the entire LB group, DOD looks best suited to play in every package because he’s the only guy with any coverage ability. I’m very confused about the following assertions

A) Ragland is viable on this roster in 2019
B) DOD is seen as a part time player

Tyrone

I’ve got NFI how Nate Taylor thinks he knows how many snaps DoD is going to be playing this year when;

  1. We’re still signing and cutting players
  2. We’re still weeks away from the draft
  3. Spags probably hasn’t even spoken to a lot of these players, let alone coached them in any capacity

He’s just prognosticating out of his ass

Sudden

Yeah, not to mention that Wilson is already identified as a Sam and replacement for Ragland while DoD has the speed, athleticism, and coverage to be a natural Will.

I hope so because I hate the language and implications in that tweet. I can’t handle a lineup of Wilson (SAM) – Ragland (MIKE) – Hitchens (WILL) in the base-D.

Hitchens was a Mike in Dallas. When we signed him last year I thought “ok, MLB to ILB shouldn’t be a too tough transition but not an ideal fit for a 3-4”.

After the draft it was obvious to me that we were staffing for a transition to 4-3. DoD was undersized and an akward fit for a 3-4 OLB, ditto with Speaks. Both guys, like hitchens, are natural 4-3 fits.

Wilson is a Sam. But I think we can find a better Sam in the draft.

If it were 2001, those are 3 perfectly good starting linebackers

Deep breath. Just keep repeating, “Sutton is gone. Sutton is gone. Sutton is gone.”

Sudden

Look, Veach knows what he’s doing on defense. Every defensive signing and draft pick last year was designed as a scheme fit for a 4-3 base. We didn’t jump straight into a 4-3 last year because we were only getting the pieces together but it was obvious by the end of the draft that was the plan. He probably figured the defense would be a weak spot but no one, even the most wild eyed homer, knew Mahomes would make us this competitive in year 1.

I for one like the forward thinking and anticipation Veach is showing.

I am all in with you……if that last sentence is true.

CHIEFSandSABRES

Hey Sutton is gone.

venturachief

Don’t know much about him but his PFF grades look absolutely horrible. Yikes, I hope he is strictly depth and they are not expecting meaningful snaps from him. Someone tell me I’m wrong.

Kcrobwins
Kcrobwins

if we cared about poor PFF grades Sorenson, Zombo, and Parker would never have been back. They were last or near it for their positional groups.

How much?

Too much!

tsv0728
tsv0728

I don’t hate it. 1yr contract with 750k or so dead in year 2. We definitely needed bodies for the position. This is a cheap way to not box yourself into being desperate. The PFF grade last year was really bad. 2016 was pretty good, especially at this price. Hopefully they can find the ’16 version of him.

go_saleaumua
go_saleaumua

His snaps took a big hit last year, with Smith & VE playing on 2nd & 3rd down almost 100% of the time… As far as I can tell on cowboys media, anyway

Cowboys media = Jason Witten.

So glad they signed him back so we don’t have to hear his idiotic yammering anymore.
