Wacky Wednesday edition. Why? Because I said so.

I could say something, but who wants that? Let’s have some zaniness instead.

Now that everyone’s been properly traumatized, let’s get to it!

With that, time’s yours.

BRAG, you win the internet for a day … the Tex Avery short is brilliant

So darby is expected to be here and test his acl. Hmmm i think i will pass on that haha does anyone really trust our medical staff to diagnose anything? So if they say he is in excellent condition expect sonething bad. If they say he has a problem its probably worse then what they say. Only way we will know if he is physically okay is from outside doctors. I do not trust our medical staff

Pelletman
Pelletman

I have a lot of questions for our med/strength guys. So many achilles popping, ACLs, so many lingering issues. Everything with Berry has been a bad deal over the last 2-3 years.

Savagerider

Thats why i do not trust their diagnosis conclusion tomorrow on darby

Welp, politically motivated nonsense is commencing. Time for a siesta. Adios muchachos.

Pelletman

It was OK an hour ago when “people don’t care because MAGA” but when people start pushing back it’s time to adios muchacos?

Defend the policies Trump ran on. I’ve no issue with that. But the time to defend his slogan or his tenure is long gone.

Pelletman
Pelletman

It’s ramping up. The only reason Make America Great Again would be “long gone’ is because we have a record economy, record low minority unemployment, renegotiating shitty deals, eliminating ISIS, creating actual peace, getting out of unnecessary wars.

2 options, either we don’t need to MAGA because it’s already starting or we still need to MAGA… so yeah, I’ll defend his “slogan”.

upamtn

a record economy? well, if you consider a trillion per year deficit projected for the next 4 yrs a record … sure

renegotiating shitty deals … you mean the overwhelming successes in N Korea or the wonderfully winning tariff thing with China (farmers just LOVE it!)

/blatant sarcasm

Sudden
Sudden

Growing federal deficits are built into the very nature of an aging population and the associated entitlement spending. The elites strategy is to supplement the consumerist lack of fertility at home by importing labor the same way they do trinkets. It’s a short term fix because those trinkets age and collect just the same (and frankly many collect before they age).

I’m an accelerationist all the way. Let’s build up a debt pile so yuge that only Weimar-level inflation and collapse can result. We already have the associated social landscape and concentration of capital of the era

Sudden
Sudden

The record economy only delays and intensifies the needed reckoning and fosters the most destructive instincts of modernity and record high heritage America unemployment, govt dependency, and despondence to the point of a fentanyl death epidemic.

I’ve no issue with the rest. I figured trade would be his biggest success as POTUS has significant trade authority (granted in past decades to overcome working class reps in manufacturing districts objecting). He eliminated ISIS only by finally cutting off the considerable US support for its allied anti Assad factions

So credit due on trade and foreign policy. But I’d rather he do the first paragraph right than the second. I care less about a people being conquered, destroyed, and replaced half a world away than I do about my own.

I’m a fan. I get attached to players. I understand it’s a business, but this still stings.

That second video reminds me how weird those old cartoons can be. Who’s idea was it to have an entire sketch based on a wolf who wants to have sex with an attractive red headed dancer?

oof46
oof46

Remember when a rabbit could dress like a lady and the guy would go goo goo over it?

Tony Sommer

Crazy that those cartoons are still around. Were they made in like the 50’s or something?

Yup. And I hate how certain people are trying to censor them. I love them for what they are.

I think losing Ford, Houston’ and Berry has hit me now. TBH bitching that they ‘robbed’ and don’t contribute was easy, now how the heck we fill the voids? I’m worried. Hope Veach and Andy’s got some plan. Someone said D can’t get any worse, now me thinks – yes it can.

legal_kush
legal_kush

It can. But they will have to work at it.

legal_kush
legal_kush

It’s about time.
Remember when I made an off-hand comment about Boeing 737 MAX 8’s falling out of the sky on this here forum a short few days ago?
Seems a bit more pertinent now, doesn’t it?
I was told to “go to my room” which seems a bit sophomoric to me (on the earlier open thread tonight) when people are still dead.
Oh yeah, there’s more. It’s political.
It’s money.

RDD India
RDD India

We got tons of flights cancelled here in India cuz of Max. Could’ve been worse. I don’t get the panic. Is it because we don’t know the root cause or unsure of its probable occurance. Either way I am getting a massage since I can’t take a flight anyway.

legal_kush
legal_kush

Boeing said “it’s just another 737” except that it’s not. No simulator training, you’ll be fine. Except you won’t be. Unless you are a savvy veteran pilot. Maybe.

Sudden
Sudden

There’s hundreds in the air each day, and 2 crashes since October in Ethiopia and Indonesia. It’s obviously a tragedy for the families and I know fuckall about civil aviation and whether there’s any insanely defective components but I do know how prone people are to overreact to mass casualty events and abandon rational thought so color me skeptical.

RDD India
RDD India

Any no that affects air travel 3.4 DPMO is scary. I worked for Boeing and every time I fly in an aeroplane I don’t feel so good.

legal_kush
legal_kush

I tuned front end nav systems for Rockwell Collins for three years in the late nineties. My wife still works for Collins Aerospace.
When the software relies on one sensor susceptible to crosswinds and a less than experienced 737 pilot isn’t given simulator training because it’s “just a 737” and people don’t care because MAGA.
The entire world had to ground this plane before Trump. Remember when the USA was great?

RDD India
RDD India

Yeah seems like there’s bug in the MACs or stall prevention system while taking off. But this is speculation. But Boeing shouldn’t treat this as business as usual and act with ‘abundance of caution’.

legal_kush
legal_kush

It is speculation. It does, however, have satellite surveillance corroboration of similarities with the nose down negative air speed.
Seasoned (and maybe newbie) 747 pilots like to climb to cruising altitude “quickly.” The “never mind these changes” safety systems might disagree, but it’s “just another 737.”
How is that for speculation?

RDD India
RDD India

There’s that evidence. I agree. However I’ve came across some data that showed pilots trying to climb too quickly with steeper at the edge of envelope. Now that’s the correlation I would like to see. Causation maybe established.

Sudden
Sudden

That seems a fair assessment. If I tried driving my Ford focus the same way I would drive a Lamborghini, I would meet with my maker sooner than I wish. It would also explain how there’s been a lot of flights taken on this craft, and while it’s defect rate is absurd by aeronautical standards, it’s not exactly the Hindenburg

Sudden
Sudden

Dafuq does MAGA have to do w it? I’ll take your word for it on a single sensor being a glaring design flaw but I stand by what I said: the number of flight hours logged by said aircraft demonstrate it’s not some evil flying deathcraft. Again, my knowledge of aviation is bordering on non-existent but there may be a relatively simple fix (i.e. adding a backup sensor better protected from crosswinds interference) but the mass hysteria about it right now makes that hypothetically appropriate solution moot.

legal_kush
legal_kush

MAGA is inflammatory. I apologize.
Five weeks of less than stellar government oversight in the rollout of this passenger transport platform fix might be comforting to the non-paid engineers tasked with addressing the problem may be a better way to put it. Not that Boeing and the FAA would need to coordinate.

Single sensor is just a rumor between you and me and my time as a free man, right? Wink wink.
But, yeah, this didn’t need to happen. Software fix for arrogance. “Why would a cross-wind matter?”

Pelletman

MAGA is beautiful. Unless it’s used in a derogatory manner from the mentally ill Left.

Sudden

Apology accepted, it takes a good man to confess to over stating/scapegoating so I consider that a high credit to you.

Regulatory capture/iron triangles are a long-standing critique of the bureaucratic state that’s valid across administrations. If anything, no president has had less control and sway over the well-ensconced machinery of the fourth branch than the current.

What issues our system has are deeply institutional and there’s such maybe inertia behind them that the only real hope is for a Boeing 737 max type crash and burn of the whole edifice instead of the seemingly inevitable slow decline into wholesale incompetence that we seem destined for.

legal_kush

I am a huge Trump critic, admittedly. Obama was no less Pro-Boeing.
I just feel like it finally took Canada banning the platform (after the rest of the civilized world) for Trump to step up.

I’m a Trump critic, but from his far right flank. He wasted his first 2 years with control of Congress on shit tier normie GOP tax cuts. He was elected on trade and immigration and he didn’t bother addressing the latter until it was too late (albeit while fighting against an entrenched duopoly hell-bent on cheap labor and reliable voters). I swallowed his crass presentation and even came to admire his irreverence among such a superficially austere elite because he was supposed to be the bull in the china shop. That didn’t materialize.

But I thank God everyday that he didn’t commit our boys to another ridiculous misadventure in the middle East via Syria. It’s especially surprising given how much fealty he shows for the very middle Eastern nation-state which has made the US and the broader anglosphere its vassal since it was a nation without a state.

Unfortunately the only candidate on the opposite side of the aisle I trust in that regard is Tulsi Gabbard and she seems to get awful press even in left circles in spite of being genuinely likeable, having solid coalition of the ascendent bona fide, and being moderate to the point of crossover appeal. I’d say I wonder why that is but I know.

Pelletman
Pelletman

You can blame Never Trumpers like Ryan, McCain/Flake (and more) as to why it was a sluggish first 2 years.

If the GOP was a homogeneous group like the DNC a lot more would have passed.

Heck, even wonderful patriots like Rand Paul screw up votes because of “morals” when he doesn’t consider the alternative.

Sudden
Sudden

Because libertarianism is a meme religion. Maybe it was appropriate for Jeffersonian agrarian and homogenous late 18th century America, but in the schizophrenic global shopping mall it has become, it’s outdated (and that’s being charitable).

The central question is does libertarianism inevitably lead to the private media monopoly synthesis of Orwell and Huxley and atomized godless consumerism.

legal_kush
legal_kush

Wow. That escalated quickly.

upamtn

Ryan? ROFL … Trump’s “yes man” in the house for 2 years

McCain and Flake: good men with a sense of obligation to citizens and to the country, not to party affiliation … and certainly not Trump

if the GOP was homongenous along the lines of those two, a whole boatload of centrist Dems would’ve joined them long ago and Trump would be in prison where he belongs … with his choirboy Pence, tyvm

Why would you blame Ryan and “never Trumpers?”

The difference is I loved the things about him that you probably hated the most, the things you were told were inherently evil, the things labeled “racist/sexist/transphobic/islamophobic/nativist/xenophobic” by the press. My anger with him is that those were the things he betrayed. So much as I’ll give him credit for his refreshingly non-interventionist foreign policy, as stated above, I care more about the well-being of my own than others half a world away. And he’s failed us.

I’ll also throw an edit in. I’d be curious to hear your response to the broader worldview I’ve stitched together on this thread. I trust you could decipher it, and once you do, you’d find it both terrifying and intriguing. I’m a recovered libertarian (hence the venom I hurled at it elsewhere ITT), I’ve tacked both hard right on social issues (particularly a total immigration moratorium for a generation with net zero new citizens), and hard left on economic issues (invert the tax rates on earned income and capital so that the rich must pay and the ambitious and striving middle class upon which a decent world is built can build reasonable and more widely distributed wealth) all at once.

Trump likely wins again unless he’s dumber and less organized than we think.

Sudden

Nah. He’ll tack right for the general, but the lightning in a bottle that he caught circa 2015 tacked further right long ago and will see it for a charlatan’s song and dance. Betrayal will always grate more than expected opposition. As Codreanu said, “if I had but one bullet and faced with an enemy and a traitor, I’d let the traitor have it.”
