Yeah I’m still fighting my video editing software…I’ve spent about 12 hours on a video I was planning to release today that I’ve been trying to compile for 3 days now with no success. So more fighting with the tech support guy in India who replies about once every 12 hours. BDD, where ya at? Help a brother out!

Tonight we bring you RGR and Thats Good Sports!

3rd shift thread’s up.

CHIEFSandSABRES

Random OT question- Is anyone here familiar with dry aging beef?

BleedingRedAndGold

Don’t know the cut you are considering, but Alton Brown has a process for a dry-aged prime rib that might help you out.

CHIEFSandSABRES

I’m just looking around, I saw at the grocery store yesterday some t-bones hanging and thought it would be interesting to give it a shot!

So what if we drafted that TE Hockinson from Iowa with our #29 pick, then spend the rest of the draft on defense and some OL.

As much as I’d like Hockenson, the problem is that this draft is very shallow in CB depth. I doubt they will be able to do much in FA at CB so the draft is key.

Twofer Tuesday tonight features some early Whitesnake. You know, before the 80s came and ruined them.

Was it the 80’s…or Tawny Kitaen that ruined them?

Dave B.

It was glam metal that ruined them.

Tarkus

Not all glam rock was bad.

Thank you for putting up the original of this song. The original and better version.

Tarkus

Couldn’t agree more. Slade was absolutely bad ass. Noddy was such a great singer and front man.

Nasrani

I admittedly haven’t listened to too much of them, though I have a good bit.

They do a pretty mean live cover of “Born to be Wild” too.

BleedingRedAndGold

What it says about me, I don’t know, but I’ve always been partial to this track:

StramtoReid

I don’t remember hearing the original, when you bring up classic rock in K.C., i always remember KY102.

BleedingRedAndGold

KY102’s demise was pretty bad, IMO. Maybe someone else should have remembered what happened when those East coast hotshots bought it out – and what happened to it once their plan got implemented. /snark.

Man, I remember KY102… and that was a long time ago.

BleedingRedAndGold

My radio memories go back somewhat further, though coughing up the particulars would be dating myself.

Then again, perhaps I should date myself, as I haven’t had any offers in quite a while. Having a wife can do that, I guess.

Most people dont realize the popular version of this song was a re-recording. Personally, I like this version with the guys from what was left of Deep Purple backing Coverdale

Tarkus

Speaking of Deep Purple with Coverdale…

The finale of that show was amazing.

I think they rerecorded it changing “hobo” to “drifter” for American audiences who they thought would think hobo was “homo”

completely different musicians too. They lost the swing that Cozy Powell had in his playing. Tommy Aldridge is not near as jazzy. And let’s face it, Jon Lord was a bad mother RIP

Emmitt that is, for anyone wondering.

Bad-ass player, solid coach, good human.

Thanks for the memories, Emmitt.

I have a second monitor for my computer (which is absolutely amazing), but apparently my computer isn’t good enough to really use it effectively.

For one of my businesses I basically have to make powerpoint presentations based on audio tracks. I came up with the genius idea of having a computer transcribe it so I could just read it and copy and paste stuff while having Youtube on in the background (without the transcripts I had to listen to what was being said so couldn’t have stuff on).

Unfortunately it turns out that my computer can’t handle showing three windows across two screens, so I have to to watch the youtube video on my phone.

Why is life so hard?

Nasrani
Nasrani

I’ve been known to two-screen it from time to time. It’s especially handy while I’m watching Arabic news (though usually I only have time to watch the fluff pieces, perhaps in part because of who hosts the show with the most of them, see image below) and doing homework at the same time.

Believe it or not, it actually helps with the grammar – sometimes hearing the way a word ends* can help me to understand grammar rules.

*Arabic is one of those languages with case endings. Short vowels, and especially short vowels at the ends of words, can determine whether a word is the subject, the verb, the object, after a preposition, or possessed/possessive. It’s a weird set of rules that we don’t have time to get into here (particularly since I don’t think anyone would be interested in them outside of a cursory discussion), but having Arabic news on while I studied for my finals last semester must have helped, since I didn’t fail the class (given how poorly I did on the midterm, this was actually a huge surprise for me).

Does your wife know why you like watching the news so much?

Nasrani
Nasrani

Yeah, because the downside with the above chick is that when she speaks she sounds like she has a raging case of either laryngitis or “smoked-two-packs-a-day-for-twenty-years”-itis.

The news watching actually does help with linguistic maintenance, and that’s why I watch it. It just helps that said linguistic maintenance comes with a nice face or three.

BleedingRedAndGold

Sounds to me like you need a better video card (or maybe just another one), rather than a whole new computer. But that’s working from limited data, so grain of salt. I’d need specs for your system to say anything with greater confidence.

Tony Sommer

That’s my thought too. Maybe a trip to microcenter is in order.

Leaf
Leaf

Correct me if I’m reading that wrong, but it sounds like you are running multiple different applications, not just graphic intensive ones. What issue is your computer displaying? Like are the programs not loading, are they crashing, or are they slow as shit.

Tony Sommer

I’ve had other graphics issues. I think the graphics card it has is just really, really bad.

Leaf
Leaf

Possibly. But you also might just be underpowered for running multiple applications. Replacing your graphics card would made things look prettier, but you would still have issues running three programs at the same time.

BleedingRedAndGold

*Shrug* The implications of what Wustl’s been saying have left me with the impression that he could run two programs just fine, it was adding Youtube on the second monitor that bollixed things up. YT isn’t a process-heavy thing, but graphics is what the site’s all about. Wustl will undoubtedly update us, if he does anything about it.

Tony Sommer

It seems to have issues with gifs sometimes as well. Maybe it’s something else, but it doesn’t seem to struggle with anything other than that kind of stuff.

Leaf
Leaf

You could have multiple things needing replaced. Hard to say without specs and knowing how the computer is acting.

Tony Sommer

Yeah, but even if I knew the solution my laziness would likely get in the way of me actually fixing it.

Leaf
Leaf

I don’t know. The picture quality of the second monitor would improve with a better graphics card. But PowerPoint isn’t a graphics intensive program. A graphics card shouldn’t affect him running multiple programs.

Fire_FG_the_moron
Fire_FG_the_moron

perhaps a memory availability issue causing it to lag?

Leaf
Leaf

That’s where I was kind of leaning. Hard to tell. I’d hate for him to drop a butt load on a new graphics card only for him to still have problems.

Tony Sommer

That’s the other possibility. But what makes me think it’s a graphics card is that it worked fine if all the windows are up but just two programs are showing on the two screens. But the moment I have two programs showing on my second screen it acts weird.

I can’t imagine the difference in memory usage between a program that’s running but not visible and one that’s visible but not selected is that big.

Fire_FG_the_moron
Fire_FG_the_moron

background programs draining system resources could be a bigger factor than you think. you may have to manually close some stuff to free up memory.

Tony Sommer

I think that’s part of it, but this was happening this morning when I just turned on my computer.

Fire_FG_the_moron
Fire_FG_the_moron

you’d be amazed what stuff uses what memory. Its especially frustrating to me with windows 10. In fact, I openly miss XP

Tony Sommer

Another example, a lot of times I have issues looking at gifs from reddit, but it has no issues when I run Sound Forge.

Tony Sommer

I just checked and I have 8 gb of RAM, which I thought was low but according to the internet seems typical.

Leaf
Leaf

That is odd. How are things acting weird? Slow? Glitchy? None responsive?

Tony Sommer

When I load a gif on reddit (for example) sometimes my computer freezes up for a moment, then the gif has an error message and I get a message that it was blocked by the hardware.

For the one with multiple windows, it will go slow and have problems displaying stuff. For example there will be parts of the Powerpoint window that are just black.

Fire_FG_the_moron
Fire_FG_the_moron

program conflicts ruled out? without actually seeing said problems, its nearly impossible to narrow down the root source. just try different things to see what you come up with.

Fire_FG_the_moron
Fire_FG_the_moron

Already outsourcing. Didnt anyone tell you to keep it local so you can fix it fast?
