Chiefs Add Another Defensive Assistant

The Kansas City Chiefs are adding former Patriots defensive line coach Brendan Daly to the staff according to Jim McBride. McBride has a solid history of coaching up talent along the defensive line in Belichick’s scheme, something that may come in handy during the 2019 playoffs. Its unclear if he will be coaching the defensive line in Kansas City or what that might mean for incumbent DL coach Britt Reid. Personally I believe this might be a promotion, as a lateral move to leave the Super Bowl Champions seems unlikely. Assistant Defensive Coordinator would be my guess.

Not that anyone’s paying attention right now, but….we still need a LB coach.

Per PFT, Kentucky won’t agree to a buyout. So we’re missing a LB coach, as of yet–House stays with the NCAA’s.

Just read that. House staying with KY.

This is good stuff. I expect to see a lot of hybrid fronts and creative pressure packages to get our pass rushers free lanes. As a natural consequence I don’t think we’ll be playing man coverage as often.

Daly’s wife is originally from KC and all her family is still in KC so this as a lateral move is probably a combination of personal reasons as well as professional (spags, competitive team, crazy good DL)

Unlike all of last years coaching staff, does he realize the NFL is “tackle” football? If so, I approve

Do I approve of this hiring, no because hes never once beaten the Patriots which was the most important factor is all the hires.

Truthfully though this is one Im gonna have to take whatever side people smarter than me tell me to take because theoretically it makes the Patriots just a little bit weaker, and maybe he brings a little Belicheatian with him, but without looking into it to deeply does Belicheats defensive castaways have any positive track records?

Most of billy staff have rcvd HC positions. Kind of like the Broncos coaches who coat tailed of Payton manning. & NONE of those peeps promoted to HC did nada

But your question was about billy assistants leaving to coach as assistants. Most have been average or above average.

My boy who lives in Boston. Just text me. Chiefs got a coach with daly. I’m pushing my boy 2 get opening tix. Chiefs @ Foxborough

YES YES YES – BRITT IS BACK TO PICKING UP JOCK STRAPS. I mean special projects coach

I’m looking for a full time driver
$70k a year

But maybe andy/daddy keeps Britt & hired Daly to help

What are you going to do when it’s announced that Britt is still the DL coach and Daly is doing something else?

Or vice-versa.

Daly hire proves he wants 2 win superbowl now. Nfl is a cut throat biz. & I love Andy 4 seeing. We need 2 get better

Look at when Andy hired Chili as a assistant/advisor. Before herm took that college position. I was hoping chiefs would bring him on staff as a d advisor

gonzangkc11
gonzangkc11

As long as britt has help (aka daly)…chiefs d will be fine.

Now the entire d staff needs to evaluate all current D talent. Tell the players I want u 2 train 4 this position this offseason. Example if player X will be a D-line player. Bulk up, lower body work, flexibility & speed off Dline

Out of player pocket pay & Hire a guru Like neil Smith, Jared allen, etc.

slackator

I have no problem now with Britt as he has shown to be worthy of the position, however I have a problem with someone being on the coaching staff that doesnt have to live up to the standards of all the other coaches because of who his dad is. I dont believe for a second that Andy would ever fire his son if it was needed, hence why Nepotism is bad. Kyle Whittinghams son might be close to a similar category due to Reids history with his father. If it works out fantastic but if not its a very bad look that has a chance of having very bad repercussions for the rest of the team

Leaf
Leaf

I don’t know. I think Reid could move on from his son if for the betterment of the team. But I do think of it came to that he’d offer a different spot for Britt, should he want it.

Merritt, House and Daly, seems solid to me. Spags has broad experience and has the opportunity for success as a lure for snagging his preferred ex-colleagues, good spot to be in, and it would seem Andy is giving him the D reins. Now, maybe Britt morphs into his father’s time clock coach.

go_saleaumua
go_saleaumua

House isn’t coming now, per PFT. Kentucky wouldn’t agree to the buyout.

So are people still losing their minds that the staff hasn’t been announced, and all the good coaches are already gone?

I would bet that Balicheck uses coaches like backup QBs, make them look good and then pawn them off so you can annihilate them in future meetings.

I do like the DL work that the Pats have had in the past so this could be a great hire. I woild bet this is a promotion though.

I think you forgot to carry the one.

go_saleaumua
go_saleaumua

Why is that an issue? Unless you are one of these idiots that thinks he can’t coach. I think the on field results from the line beg to differ.

If baby Reid’s last name was Philips, and results identical, you’d be having his babies right now.

That said I LOVE the Daly hire. Love it muchly.

Tarkus

The Britt Reid-hating is getting so fucking tired. It’s such a lazy way of thinking.

Berserker

I think that a large part of it has been just a few folks (and I’m thinking specifically about one who is a contributor on AP) who probably had one or two favorite Dlinemen, and those one or two favorite Dlinemen weren’t producing as well as their fans thought they should. So those few fans auto-blamed the position coach for their man-crush not living up to expectations, instead of looking at the player or the scheme or Sutton.

RamX21
RamX21

Not lazy at all. That’s why he’s being replaced.

Tarkus

First, we don’t know for sure he’s being replaced.

Second, new DCs generally want to hire their own staff. That doesn’t mean everyone replaced was fired for incompetence.

Or promoted.

Other than the hate…I have yet to see anyone point to anything to indicate WHY they think he’s a bad coach other then being Big Red’s son.

Chickennpickles
Chickennpickles

I don’t get it. We’ve got 3 D Linemen in PFF’s top 100. We led the league in sacks this year. I know the defense, as a whole, has quite a few issues. D-line is pretty far down on that list. Why the problem? Is it solely the nepotism? If he did a crappy job, I could understand. But, as far as I can tell, he’s been doing good work.

NHChiefsfan
NHChiefsfan

I don’t hate Britt Reid. I am just curious what is going on and what is going to happen. Is Reid still the DL coach? Is he going to be an assistant DL coach? Is he going to be doing a different job that isn’t coaching (like what Chili was doing)? I thought Reid actually did an okay job. Him and the OLB coach were really the only guys good enough to justify being kept around if the new DC decided to keep any at all.

RamX21
RamX21

Our DL has underperformed in every facet since he’s been in charge. Chris Jones being the freak he is doesn’t matter who is coaching. Tell me someone else that has improved under him

Tarkus

Allen Bailey just had a career year, and Derrick Nnadi had a better rookie year than most were expecting.

Leaf

I like how last year when Jones didn’t look as good, it was all Britt’s fault. But now that he’s rebounded is all Jones is just a freak.

legal_kush

It was the key to beating KC in Arrowhead as well.

I think a lot of that pressure was LB blitzes. Anyhow, I remember seeing 50s numbers in our backfield a lot.

Chickennpickles

legal_kush
legal_kush

He wasn’t under contract. It ended. He signed to reunite with Spag. NE would not let him go if they could stop it. At least in the conference, and to a team they know will be there every year for the next several.

Berserker

Approved.

Maybe he chose a lateral promotion because KC’s roster has so much better talent.

We wouldn’t dream of things like this happening a few years ago.

legal_kush

Eh, he followed a guy he used to work with. Happens routinely.

Berserker

No… Nope, I’m pretty sure he came to what he knows is the better team.

legal_kush
legal_kush

That may be. Still, Spags hired him in St. Louis and his contract was up in New England. Makes a lateral move “legal.”

Berserker

That is a good point about his contract in NE being up.

But still. He’s worked for Hoodie before, too. So I’m pretty sure it’s because everybody knows we’re winning the next Superbowl.
